Logan College is named, was born February 9, 1826, in what is now Murphysboro, Illinois. Raised in a home that was a center of political activity, he came to love politics at an early age. In 1840 his father, Dr. John Logan, sent him to Shiloh Academy at Shiloh Hill, Illinois, to complete his education. The College is named for John A. Logan (1826-86), a Civil war general who spent his early years in what is now the community college district before becoming a U.S. senator and vice-presidential candidate (with James G. Blaine) in 1884. Logan is also remembered for his role in establishing Memorial Day and as an advocate of public education. The new President will build on this foundation to extend into the future of Logan’s legacy and is expected to take office in Spring 2025 for this full-time, in-person position located in Chesterfield, Missouri.
